New obsession – Norwegian TV show ‘Skam’

You’ve probably noticed, if you’re following me on Instagram, that I’ve been talking in the descriptions of a couple of photos about a TV show named Skam, about Noora and William, Evak ship and the fact that the show is amazing. I saw it because of a couple of friends – actually binge-watched it a-season-a-day – and became absolutelly obsessed with it. And I’ve noticed I’m not the only one, the word about the show is spreading across the world. You’ve maybe heard of the show, you’ve maybe found a gif or a photo of its characters,  you’ve maybe watched it and maybe you haven’t. Whichever category you fit in, as the fourth season is coming and I just can’t stop myself from talking about it here too, let me introduce you to Skam.

Skam (Shame, translated form Norwegian) is a Norwegian teen drama which follows the lives of a group of friends attending Hartving Nissen school from Oslo. For now there are three seasons filmed, and every  season has a different main character. In the first season it’s Eva (Lisa Teige), in the second it’s Noora (Josefine Frida Pettersen) and in the third it’s Isak (Tarjei Sandwik Moe).

The show has a unique concept – parts of episodes are uploaded through the week at the exact time the scene is supposed to happen and every Friday those parts are combined into an episode which streams on NRK. On official site are also uploaded conversations between characters and during the season characters’ Instagram accounts are also active, which is totally cool. Even though NRK has restricted the show’s streaming outside Norway, its fans started to translate the episodes by themselves, which is how they succeeded to spread the word about it worldwide.

What I love the most about the show is that young people, teenagers, are portrayed just the way they (we) are, with realistic problems and that is the reason why it’s possible to connect with the characters. I like how the show is directly connected with social media as it’s actually the big part of our lives. Also, every season deals with topics like slut-shaming, discovering and getting in terms with your sexuality, trust, religion, eating disorder, mental health, rejection, sexual harassment – topics that are present in lives of youth, that are only starting to be taken seriously. Skam has actually became popular because of the gay couple in season three – you can’t bypass them on social media, you must be familiar with these faces!

This year Evak won TV’s Top Couple 2017 on E! Online, thanks to “the Coolest Fanbase on Earth”! You can read all about that here.

If you ask me, the best season is the second one starring Josefine Frida Petterson as Noora, probably because she’s my favorite character from the show.

The fourth season should start this spring (hopefully soon) and the whole fandom is eagerly waiting for the trailer to come out  so we’d know who is the main charcter. I hope it will be Sana.

Are you watching Skam?  Would you like to? If you’re watchin, which is your favorite season yet? Who are your favorite characters?

Till the next time,

Jana sends you hugs! ♥
